Improving Accuracy of SMS based FAQ Retrieval Aparna Joshi Department of Information Technology Army Institute of Technology, Pune University of Pune Maharashtra, India _______________________________________________________________________________________ Abstract: Short messaging service (SMS) is a convenient technology for a user to get the needed information delivered on demand. The automation of handling the user’s queries to retrieve an answer among a set of frequently asked questions (FAQs) has an intrinsic problem of noise which is nothing but the short meaningless words that are typed in the SMS. Aim is to find the question from the FAQ database corresponding to SMS query. But as I know that SMS language has inherent noise (lexical and semantic variations of known words) so in order to handle these noise we calculate the score of different FAQ questions from candidate set (Kothari et al., 2009) and return the answer corresponding to the FAQ question having the maximum score. In order to increase the accuracy of SMS based FAQ retrieval we proposed few enhancements in evaluating the score of FAQ from candidate set. I proposed that accuracy can be improved by considering proximity of SMS query and FAQ tokens as well as by considering length of the matched tokens from the SMS query to the FAQ question under consideration
